DURA-BIDE_90C – Flapper Check Valve Repair
Share
Situation:
After approximately 6 months of on and off pumping time, the Flapper Check Valve experienced erosion/corrosion on the flapper seal face, preventing proper sealing.
Task at Hand:
After evaluating operating conditions, flow rates, and time to failure, we needed to determine the best method to repair the casting back to a sealing surface condition.
Action Plan:
Upon inspection, we determined the best method that would create a permanent solution was our DURA-BIDE_90C Ceramic Coating Material Technology. Our application process introduces little to no heat input during application, introduces no thermal stress to the base material and has a mechanical locking mechanism to reduce the risk of shear failure between coating and substrate. It also allows us to perform multiple repairs over the DB_90C after the 1st repair has been completed.
The Results:
Customer ensembled, tested, and achieved immediate sealing surface. Unit has been running for 2 months, and visual inspection shows no erosion or corrosion on the seal surface area. We anticipate a service life extension of 5 to 20 times the original.
Environmental Impact:
Waste Reduction: Six valve bodies were restored instead of scrapped.
Sustainability: Eliminates the need to purchase new valves for the mine’s remaining lifespan.
