Customer Challenge
A customer required a finishing solution to reduce the consumption of a diamond flexible abrasive during the manufacturing of a plunger using a Nickel, Chrome, Tungsten based alloy. The abrasive was utilized from as-sprayed condition to the production of a fine, consistent surface on complex and hard-to-grind materials. Competitor abrasives were either too rigid, limiting conformity, or too flexible, reducing material removal efficiency.
Solution
Hand In Hand Technologies partnered with KGS Diamond to custom manufacture a Purple 400 Grit KGS Diamond STS K-LOC Disc tailored specifically to the customer’s application.
The 400 grit diamond surface delivers a fine, consistent finish. The disc provides the versatility needed for finishing and dimensioning both flat and contoured surfaces, including hard-to-reach areas. It is rigid enough to support high material removal rates while remaining flexible enough to follow difficult geometries and we improved life by a factor of 10 – 15X.
