D10 Lift Yolk Repair
Share
Situation:
During the running of a D10 dozer there were specific forces that caused the lift cylinder yolk to become over stressed in its position on the dozer. That over stress caused a mechanical failure of the pin flange end.
Task at Hand:
To pick a process and materials that does not damage the busing fit locations and increases the mechanical strength of the pin flange end.
Action Plan:
New end pre-machined out of high strength yield material and to pick a welding process/post-weld heat treat process that will not damage mechanical properties of the parent material.
The Results:
Pin flange end was restored to original manufacturer dimensions and the parent material hardness was not changed during our repair process. We saved the client 25-30% of the cost of a brand-new unit.
Environmental Impact:
Saved 480 pounds of raw material from going to land fill. Used 7 pounds of virgin material instead of 480 pounds of new material.
